Dream Machine

We are throwing a question out to all machine quilters....
If you could stretch your sewing machine to any size you liked
What would it be???????????
What is the ideal arm length of your dream machine?

If you had a choice between 14 inches, 16 inches or 18 inches
Which one would you pick? and why?
Please let me know where you are, UK, USA, wherever.

Thanks!

It would be 18 inches. I had a Juki 98 that I loved, but I wanted more room so I sold it and got the HQ16. The gal I sold my Juki to sent the machine into WOW to be stretched. It would be great to buy the bigger machine to start with. I am in the US.

More to the point...figure out how to stretch the bobbin and you'd have customers pounding to get in.

I had the Juki on a frame and sold it for an 18" machine that is perfect. If it was much longer, I'd have a hard time reaching.

I'd be happy with 16" or 18" arm length. I had a sewing machine with a 10" arm length and downsized to 8". I love my Bernina 440qe but it is a tight squeeze. I live in the U.S.

I would love to have an 18-inch machine and plan to upgrade someday. I currently have a Janome 1600p on a frame and have enjoyed learning a great deal on this setup. I'm in the US (Hawaii).

I think 18" is plenty long enough.
To me the rest would be waisted space.
And I am in the USA.

Love your blog.!!

I would go with a 18" if I had the choice. I think it would give me more options and it would mean less rolling. I love my Juki, but dream of being able to do more. I am in the US.

I would go with an 18 inch. any bigger, and it would be too far to reach. I am in the US (florida)

Thanks so very much for your comments! We are finding them really helpful! Thanks also to the people who have emailed me directly.I've been dreaming about a stretched JUKI for years - it's my fantasy machine! It's reassuring to find out that I'm not the only one. I'm hoping that the comments and emails will keep coming over this next week. Thanks again!

Thanks for the post, and thanks everyone for the comments. I've learned a lot. I'm relatively new to quilting machines, but I'd already noticed that the Juki 98 was a very popular machine. Now I understand why.

I bought the Juki TL98Q six months ago and I'm still figuring out what I can do with it. So far, so good. But if the arm is now 8.5 inches, why couldn't it be 10? or 12? anything bigger and then I'd want it on a frame.

18, of course! Lots more room for quilting larger designs. In the U.S.

Interesting question! I've pondered an 18" or longer machine... which would, to me, be a "long arm" rather than stretching my Juki like www.wowquilts.com does. It's a consideration though. :) I know a lot of people (online) have had their Juki stretched by Wowquilts.
